Product Description: This is a reconditioned power tool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like new condition. Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes. If you've bought reconditioned tools before, you know well what an incredible deal they are. And if you haven't, this is an awesome set to start with and will save you literally hundreds of dollars. Everything in this kit, from the hammerdrill to the saws and even the flashlight, are just as good as brand-new.

Hammerdill/Drill/Driver
The hammerdrill/drill/driver packs awesome power with an added benefit: The half-inch chuck self-tightens while in hammer mode throughout operation, giving you the ultimate in bit-gripping strength. Three gears give you the perfect range for any application, with 0 to 6,800, 0 to 20,400 and an amazing 0 to 27,200 blows per minute in hammer mode. Likewise, speed ranges vary from 0 to 400 in low gear, 0 to 1,200 in second and a top range of 0 to 1,600 rpm. It's not overly heavy at about 7 pounds, considering it's powered by a walloping 36-volt battery. (It actually isn't any heavier than a standard 18-volt.) The balance is actually nice in hand, and there's absolutely no shortage in the power department.

Circular Saw and Recip Saw
It's a toss-up between the DC300 circular saw and the DC305 recip saw as far as our favorite in this combo. Each one performs superbly, with both massive power and professional finesse. Lever-actuated bevel adjustment on the circular saw is smooth and easy, with a 0- to 50-degree capacity, and there are on-the-money detents at 22-1/2 and 45 degrees. You'll have no complaints with the no-load speed of 4,000 rpm, either. We like the fact that you can change blades quickly and easily without tools and that the shoe and upper guard are constructed of high-strength magnesium. It's a powerhouse that's just a pleasure to use.

Likewise, the recip saw is aggressive and graceful all at once, with 0 to 3,000 strokes per minute and a max stroke length of 1-1/8 inches. The coolest feature undoubtedly is the four-position keyless blade clamp for super-easy blade changes and fantastic versatility. It's also easy on your body, keeping you from contorting to reach your workpiece. Instead of you twisting, you twist the blade and let the tool do the work. We like the comfort grip, giving you a secure hold as well as dampening any vibration you might feel. Don't need the full blade stroke? Easily managed with the three-position adjustable shoe – saves blade life, too.

Flexible Floodlight
Finally, the DC509 flexible floodlight is a particular favorite of ours because of the Flex-Neck design and lockable head clips. It stands alone, it hangs – whatever you need it to do. The beam is quite a bit brighter and broader than that of a conventional flashlight because of the wide-angle Xenon bulb. And a fully charged battery will give you a whole workshift of illumination.

The kit box is a little crowded, but we don't think the tools will spend much time inside it – they'll be on the job.

Dewalt's Revolutionary 36V Battery
The 36-volt cordless battery platform was developed to provide professional contractors with the performance needed to complete high-powered applications that were previously only possible with corded tools. By partnering with A123 Systems -- a developer of a new generation of lithium-ion batteries developed at and exclusively licensed from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) -- Dewalt's 36V line of tools are equipped with a unique Nano-Phosphate lithium-ion design. These revolutionary batteries offers a high level of power, long run-time and durability when compared to conventional lithium technology. In fact, this technology delivers a battery with a maximum life of over 2,000 recharges a nd no frustrating battery memory. With this breakthrough innovation, this 36-volt tool is sure to live up to Dewalt's commitment to providing Guaranteed Tough products for the professional end user.

Note: Do not try to discharge the battery beyond the point where the tool no longer performs with the power needed for the job. This may cause permanent damage and prevent the battery from taking a full charge in the future. Do not tape the trigger on the tool to discharge the battery. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

4 stars big power, faulty clutch design on drill
I've owned this set for over a year now and originally was planning on using it as my primary power tool set for electrical work. I do a lot of heavy hammer-drilling and have had 4 different clutches lock up into "hammer-drill mode" (each within 2 weeks). Poor clutch engineering on the drill. I still use it though because it's got so much power as well as the other tools. Great tools, but keep that drill off of "hammer-drill" mode.

5 stars Phenominal power
The recip saw is amazing. I have not taken my Milwaukee out of the case since I got this one. Plenty of power, good weight, and no cord! The hammerdrill also has plenty of power. I also have the 18v tools but haven't used them since I got the 36v ones. They are not that much heavier but have much more power and more runtime.

5 stars the best buy at amazon
this was a great deal from amazon and the tools with 36 volt are great the last a long time without chargeing and are as good as a corded tool i think that dewalt has great tools i have then all

5 stars Can't beat the price, power, and functions of this kit
CONS: Not very many. I wish the light was made using ultra bright LEDs instead of regular bulbs...that way the light would last even longer. I'm happy with the work light's battery life, but I had to mention that because I love how energy efficient LEDs are. I had a scuff on the black case that I really don't care about. That is the risk you run when you get refurbished. If you are worried about getting a scratch on your tool or toolcase then you shouldn't be buying, using, or even looking at tools. Period. Tools should be made to take a beating. I think these are pretty rugged. Weight: Sure I wouldn't recommend one of these sets to my Grandma for her light weight around the house kind of work because she couldn't even lift the drill. (She getting on in years.) But, if you want light weight, then you must trade it for power. These tools have plenty of power.

PROS: At the time I purchased this kit, I compared it to the price of a new kit. I was glad to save the money and still get the 1 year warranty. I love how it came with 2 batteries instead of making you rush out and buy a second one. Power: I love more power, but I don't think these tools need any more power. I'm happy with how they perform. Having the same battery for all of them is very handy. Lithium-ION is very powerful and should provide a good long life as long as you keep your batteries conditioned using the smart charger that it comes with. I have not found a job that these guys can't handle.

Short Amusing Story: I had a complete air conditioning system installed recently. I look over and I see that they are using a batch of these tools. For the first microsecond I thought they pulled out one of my tools but then I realized theirs had more wear and tear and a little more dirt than mine did. This team of contractors were using these same tools that I chose for my home maintenance, repairs, and projects.

In the end: If you don't mind your drill or other tools being a little heavier than some of the lightweight ones out there, then this is a high quality set at a fair price. Sure you could spend less, but you get what you pay for. I hate replacing tools and I try to buy them ONCE and be done with it. I know sometimes things wear out, but it saves me a lot of time and money in the long run.

4 stars so far so good
Have been using these about nine months now. Got the refurb package. Arrived looking brand-new. Comments so far:

Circular saw: fabulous. First time I've ever had a cordless circular. So sweet to be able to move around the material without swinging the cord. Yes, I have nearly sawed through my cord before...

Recip saw: This is the best piece in the box. An amazing cordless saw. Rrrrrrrripped through a seriously thick iron fence pipe. I've used it to limb trees. A beautiful thing.

Light: haven't used it yet.

Drill: Well, here is the important one. The one you probably use the most. Truth is, it is ever so slightly less wieldy than my old 18V. I'm still not really used to it yet. My 18V lasted nearly a decade, and was like an extension of my hand, so maybe it is still to early to judge this one. But it is a fraction heavier, I think, plus the balance is decidedly different. Frankly, it has a bit too much power. With my old 18V, I could ease a tough screw in very very slowly. Even now, months later, I have trouble with the "feel" on this drill, and find myself stripping screws in high-torque low-speed situations. Never used to do that.
As for the hammerdrill feature, I still have yet to give it a proper test (going into a dense concrete material of any distance). My experience with cordless hammerdrills has been pretty disappointing. BUT. Considering my experience above with the Recip Saw, I may end up being pleasantly surprised. Power, after all, is NOT a problem with the 36V line.

Batteries: So far so good. Way too early to tell. I would say my tools are in service about 80 to 100 days out of a year. My expectation is that I will get several years of life out of my batteries. That certainly was the case, and then some, with my 18V. And so we will be some years before we have an answer to how long these 36Vs last.

One last thing: the box is a bit tight. But too much is being made of it. Mine fit in there just fine, once you remember once and for all how they are supposed to lay.
