Product Description: For the tool hound, this is nothing short of happiness in a big box. The pair of 18-volt lithium-ion batteries power each of these gorgeous tools: hammer drill/driver, impact driver, circular saw, recip saw, and angle grinder/cutoff saw, as well as an impressive work light. The 1/2-inch hammer drill/driver puts 560 inch-pounds of torque in your hands, but it's incredibly lightweight and compact. It's got three speeds for great efficiency no matter what you're drilling or driving into, and we like the one-touch switch to move from hammer drill to driver mode as well as the LED to illuminate what you're doing. The impact driver, weighing in at a mere 3.3 pounds, delivers an unbelievable 1,280 inch-pounds of efficient torque, and the circular saw has a high-torque motor for surprising power. Capacity's good, too, cutting 2-by stock at 45 degrees. Two built-in LEDs light your work target, and we particularly liked the integrated blower that keeps your line of sight and your stock clean. We like this recip saw for its compact size, 2,900 strokes per minute and its one-handed blade changes and shoe adjustments. Like most of the other tools in this combo kit, it has LEDs for a clear view of your workpiece. The flashlight will come in handy in so many ways because it's so flexible, with four positions for just about any angle. The charger will juice up a spent battery in just about 45 minutes, and everything fits neatly into the cool Makita cargo bag. The price might be a little intimidating, but this is a great collection of tools that, bought individually, would cost a whole lot more. Definitely worth the investment. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Customer Reviews

2 stars Good, but not worth the price
I've had this tool set for just over a year now. I've been a Makita fan for years when I was a contractor, bought this set for personal use. The tools are nice, solid, do what they're supposed to, but, I haven't been real impressed with how long the batteries last. 3 year warranty on tools, but 1 year on batteries and CHARGER. Well, the charger just went TU and Makita won't cover it. Great.
My advice for what it's worth. Go to Home Depot and buy a set of Ridgid cordless tools....they're way less expensive and come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY including batteries and charger. Contractor friend just bought a set and says they're as good as any he's ever used. 'Nuff said.

5 stars Love the Tool
My crew really likes these tools. I wanted one for myself except the price jumped 100 bucks!!!!!!

4 stars Person experience of a full time builder
I bought this set (minus grinder) in December of 2005--one of the first sets made, I would assume. I recently thought about giving a hammer drill/driver to a friend I work with, and came here to read of others experience. I was a bit alarmed when I read one review (april 07) sharing that 3rd gear had gone out three times. Of course, having read that, I found my own third gear went out the next week (yes, after two years of daily use). I called Makita USA, and was told the products carry a three year manufacturer's warranty, and to send it to the nearest factory service center. Another brief call, and I had instructions for how and where to ship. I sent it off last Thursday and received it back today, Wednesday. The only charge I incurred was for shipping the drill one way. I told them at the service center of the complaints I had read and was assured that changes have been made. Time will tell, but I just wanted to share my experience with Makita USA, which was two very brief phone calls, and the problem getting fixed in less than a week. I have not had a smoother experience in dealing with any such tool problems in the past 20 years.
I love all the tools in this set, except fot the sawzall, which as another reviewer mentioned, is junk. (I got mine as a free extra with the kit I bought, so I guess you get what you pay for). Also, I shortly gave up using the bag, as it is sort of like throwing your tools loose into the back of your truck--everything just jumbles together. The circular saw is a good tool for quick easy cuts where it isn't convenient to use a plug in model. The impact driver has served me well, especially driving trusslock screws into LVL. The drill/driver is the favorite of the bunch, though I use the hammer drill only for an occasional bore into concrete for attaching with screws (it is fast and effortless for this application).
After two years, I bought two new batteries, though the originals are still going strong (nice to have four batteries for five tools anyway ... the sawzall serves, at times, as battery storage for the others).
I don't doubt other reviewers bad experiences, but mine have been mostly positive. Given the options on the market, I would probably buy this Makita line of tools again.

5 stars Excellent kit
I've been using this kit building my house for the last month and a half, and really like it. The batteries charge fast and last a long time for most uses. Used the angle grinder with a diamond cup to take down some high spots on a concrete floor, and that used up batteries relatively quickly, but I probably should've been using a corded grinder, so I can't complain about that. This was my first impact screwgun, and it's a joy to use. Light and short and able to sink big screws with minimal torque on me. Noisy though, so ear protection is recommended when screwing with it. Drill-driver has so much torque you have to really watch out when using a holesaw so you don't end up looking like a pretzel. Either use low speed (of the 3 speeds) or switch over to screw mode and let the clutch slip when the bit bites too hard. I paid about 600 dollars, but have seen it advertised at all kinds of prices, so don't pay too much.

5 stars Great tools!
Love these tools. I replaced my busted Dewalt drill with a complete set of rechargeables. The impact driver is sweet and replaces most of the work I did with the larger drill before. Everything seems to work great and I love that I can saw, drill, drive all without having to drag extension cords around. Really speeds up the work!
