Product Description: This router combo pack from DeWalt has all the design features to make it a popular choice with woodworkers and professional carpenters. The tool's powerhouse is a smooth-running, 12 amp, 2-1/4-horsepower variable-speed motor with soft start and a spindle lock. When using the fixed base, a micro-fine adjustment ring is used to dial in the height setting at 1/64-inch increments, so the motor itself doesn't need to be turned, and as a consequence, the position of the switch and cord doesn't change every time your cut-depth does. This kit also comes with DeWalt's DW6182 plunge-router base--making it essentially two routers at one price--and DeWalt has thoughtfully made motor removal and base changing a quick and easy, tool-free operation. The plunge base features DeWalt's through-the-column dust collection system (which is also used in their popular DW621 dedicated plunge router). This efficient feature quickly removes the dust, leaving you with better cut visibility and a cleaner workspace. The plunge action itself is as smooth as you'd want, and the micro-fine depth adjustment offers precision to 5/128 inch. In addition, there's a built-in, five-position adjustable turret stop for use in making repeated or stepped plunge cuts. As finishing touches, the toggle switch is sealed against dust penetration, and the cord is fully detachable for use with other DeWalt bases and to protect it in storage. Seven of these qand bnever a problem even the 5 year old one!
These are nice routers. I love the dust collection on them because the hose goes straight up connected to a boom arm i have and they hose stays out of the way. The plunge mechanism is no the smoothest but the power is just as good as the other comparable units. The dust collection type is enough for me to overlook a few minor flaws.
I have 7 of them and not one has ever broke down and I use them for work in a shop environment. If one breaks on you its a lemon.
CONTACT Amazon not DeWalt if the item is defective when you get it or it breaks down within a week. Amazon will send out a new item quick.

Beware ordering from Amazon.com
This product arrived on schedule. My first instinct is to always look at packaging to see if it's been opened before. This one had been. A piece of packing tape that sealed the outer cardboard shell was missing as indicated by blemished strip of cardboard. Opened the tool case and found acrylic plates floating around out of their slots, which I don't believe could happen during shipping if they had been in their proper slots. Noticed small dent by power cord receptacle which was caused by something sharp like an awl. Inspected acrylic plates closely and found many scratches. One quick release latch was completely broken off which also couldn't have happened during shipping. After seeing these things I immediately packed it back up and ordered a replacement. This unit was NOT NEW. In addition they expect me to pay for shipping to return the item. We'll see about that! I am very disappointed.

Dewalt DW618PK
This is my 2nd router, and in my opinion,it's awesome! I snagged it at a really good price, and am very happy with its performance. Used it plenty both in and out of my table.

Finally a nice router
I am coming from an old craftsman fixed based, and this Dewalt is a dream. I looked at many before the purchase and the Dewalt was the only one that constantly at every store was tight and accurate in the plunge rails. I thought porter cable would be good too, but it consistently was sloppy at every store, so I purchased the dewalt and am very pleased with it.

Dewalt DW618PK
This is my first router, selected after reading a multitude of woodworking magazine reviews. Everything works as advertised, and the product arrived in a timely manner in excellent condition. I'm on a steep learning curve, but am impressed with the quality of the DW618. The kit includes both a fixed and a plunge base, thus I did not have to make a decision, but can enjoy the benefits of each type. I have every reason to expect this tool to perform well for a long time, as have all of my Dewalt tools. Dust collection with the plunge base is awesome, and adjusting depth of cut on both bases is easy and accurate: good stuff!
