Customer Reviews
Outstanding Performance
As a do it yourself boat owner and homeowner, I have the pleasure of spending many hours with many buffers, polishers, and sanders. This Ridgid Orbital sander is one of the best I have every used, it is quiet, efficient, and the dust collector even works better than any sander I have used. I am very please with my purchase after two hours of use.

Poor Design
Not a bad little sander for the price. I have two. The problem I have is the location of the power switch, very easy to accidently turn it off.

I like it!
I bought mine new at Home Depot and have had lots of great service from it. Another reviewer stated that it bogged down to easily; not so. Random orbital sanders are not intended to be used like grinders. With MODERATE pressure and the right grade sand paper for the job this sander will remove, level, and finish sand a lot of surfaces quickly and efficiently. It is also very quiet and has a good heft and feel compared to many other sanders. I especially like that I can hook the sander directly to large and small shopvac hoses without an adapter. Recently, I remodeled my bathroom. When my house was built, the builders attached the wall paper without priming the drywall first. Needless to say, once I got all of the wall paper off, I had to skim and resand the walls several times to get a good smooth surface. This is where the adjustable speed (low to reduce gouging)and dust collection options came in the most handy. Remember, all motored power tools need some TLC too. Make sure to blow them out with a compressor after use. This will increase their longevity and keep their performance high much longer.

Great sander, bad brake design
I purchased mine new from Home Depot. Three days later after about a day of use, the brake stopped working on the the disc pad. The brake keeps the pad from turning round and round at motor rpm when the pad is lifted off the work surface. Without it, you gouge your work because of the high developed rotational speed of the disc. The pad is only supposed to oscillate not rotate to do the work. I returned the sander and exchanged it for a new one. After about another full days use the brake failed again. I called a certified service center. They didn't have this problem on record yet but noted that the same company that makes Ryobi products makes Ridgid and that it wasn't a professional use product. Well I don't know how long a consumer level product is supposed to last but this was rediculous. I am using the sander to refinish my kitchen cabinets. Nothing unusual. Normal working pressure applied. I am a remodeling contractor and know how to properly use tools. The technician suggested buying a Porter Cable or Dewalt. I ended up buying a Dewalt. We'll see how long it holds up. It's too bad. I really liked the feel of the Ridgid and the way the vacuum attachment worked. The power switch was a little too easy to accidently shut off while using it though. I kept finding myself having to turn it back on when I shifted holding position while in use.

Ridgid Rocks!
I have been a Craftsman and Dewalt fan for years. Someone had told me about the Ridgid line of tools. I had always known them for plumbing tools and shop-vacs. I took a leap of faith a purchased the sander as my first Ridgid tool purchase. I do not regret it in the least bit.
The sander has plenty of power for the toughest jobs. I really like the idea of the variable speed. Many of the other brands have just an On/Off switch and that is it. I also like the idea of the lighted end of the plug. It makes it a lot easier to see if you have plugged it in behind something, and it is dark. It comes in a very sturdy injection-molded case that will be able to withstand the roughest of abuse.
One of the major selling points to the Ridgid line of tools is the Lifetime Warranty they are offering. I am not sure if it is online, but I know the major chain hardware store has the Lifetime Warranty posters everywhere. Calling Ridgid customer service confirmed that is a lifetime guarantee.
I can highly recommend the Ridgid line of tools to anyone, whether it be professional or the occasional user. I own a random orbital sander, circular saw and 18 volt cordless drill, all of which are Ridgid.
