Great idea but apparently poor durability
Dang! I wish I would have read the other reviews before I bought this!
I have only used this sander on one project. I loved the size, shape, and the attachments for getting into small places, and for a time, it worked quite well.
I used it on one project. Refinishing an old chair. Started to work on the matching table and noticed that it suddenly got much louder...clackety clack...and started to vibrate much harder so that it wanted to jump and skip when touched to the wood surface. Also, I tended to really burn through a lot of the finger attachment paper and had to special order it online after much searching and many emails to locate it. So that's sad...if you have the paper included in the kit, then have it available on the shelves whereever it is sold...a must.
So I contacted B&D re the noise. Directions say in large print to call before returning the product for repair. So after being on hold forever (and it was really annoying because every 30 seconds or so, it asked me to restate my phone number), a rep told me to return it to my nearest service center. I told them I could not locate my nearest service center. They looked it up and rather astonishingly said "there isn't one any closer than 300 miles from you"...Gee, welcome to rural America! So, as it stands, my project is on hold while they send me a return label to ship it to my "nearest service center" and I'm not sure what will happen after that. Do they charge me to repair it? Will they give me a new one? Will the new one break down right away? Does anybody know of another sander that will do all this one can do that is light, has little attachments and LASTS?
So, like the title said...GREAT idea, but apparently poor quality and durability.

Shakes itself to pieces in a very short time.
The search for a reasonably priced finish sander continues... I had hoped that this little unit from Black & Decker would hold up for a while and I would get some good use out of it. I was disappointed.
First, the "Zone Touch" feature is worthless. The red light comes on until the unit gets up to speed but after that you could beat it against a wall and the light would stay green!
The sanding platform is attached to the unit with three screws. After only a couple hours of use, the plastic attachment posts around the screws detached from the rest of the unit. There was no way to fix it since the plastic itself had literally liquified and separated. I called the Black & Decker helpline and they referred me to the DeWalt repair center in the metro area in which I live. I haven't yet taken it over there since the gas/time may cost me as much as a new unit.
I liked the versatility and comfort of this unit but it doesn't do any good if the machine isn't working at all.

Poorest quality power sander ever owned
The detail attachments that would otherwise make this tool useful vs. a normal orbital sander (and why I gave the brand the benefit of the doubt and tried it) are held in place with a machine screw that mounts into a plastic housing. In literally less than one hour of use the same day of purchase, the mount had broken out of the base. This led to excess vibration of the attachments, and thus very quickly to the breakage of the (also) plastic tabs that help hold them in the tool. The superglue I used to hold it together to finish the ONE job I started after purchasing new made for a stronger joint than the original, but attachments would no longer mount correctly. More interesting, the built-in pressure sensor (a worthless feature) never even went red to indicate pressure high enough to damage the workpiece, and yet the tool still came apart at its seams. Even the "flat" attachment to mount the regular sheets of sandpaper would no longer hold solidly to the base. I am a woodworker with a serious shop, but not a professional. This is without doubt the poorest quality tool I have purchased/used in 15+ years. Coupled with the high price of velcro-backed sandpaper (no clips are used to hold sandpaper to base on this model) makes this a tool completely unworthy of recommendation.
